Fire Extinguisher Testing Perth
Professional fire extinguisher inspection, servicing, and hydrostatic testing across Perth. Fully compliant with AS 1851, backed by over 20 years of industry experience.
Why Regular Testing Matters
Fire extinguishers are often the first line of defence in an emergency. Without regular testing, there is no guarantee that an extinguisher will function when it is needed most. In Western Australia, routine testing is both a legal requirement and a fundamental part of responsible building management.
WorkSafe WA Requirements
Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA), employers and persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) must ensure fire safety equipment is maintained and ready for use. WorkSafe WA can issue improvement or prohibition notices, and non-compliance carries significant penalties including fines and prosecution.
AS 1851 Compliance
Australian Standard AS 1851 defines the routine service frequencies and procedures for maintaining fire protection systems, including portable and wheeled extinguishers. Compliance is mandatory for all commercial, strata, and industrial properties under the Building Code of Australia.
Insurance Requirements
Most commercial insurance policies require that fire safety equipment is maintained in accordance with Australian Standards. Failure to keep extinguishers serviced and compliant can void your insurance cover, leaving you personally liable for fire damage, third-party claims, and business interruption losses.
Building Owner Responsibilities
Building owners and managers must ensure all fire extinguishers are inspected at the prescribed intervals, defective units are replaced or repaired promptly, and accurate service records are maintained for audit by WorkSafe, local councils, and insurers.
Testing Frequencies
AS 1851 prescribes specific inspection intervals for portable fire extinguishers. Each frequency level addresses different aspects of serviceability and safety.
6-Monthly
Routine inspection including confirming extinguishers are in their designated locations and unobstructed, checking for visible damage or corrosion, verifying pressure gauges are within the operable range, checking safety pins and tamper seals, and ensuring signage and operating instructions remain legible.
AS 1851 Section 15
Annual
Comprehensive service including all 6-monthly checks plus weight verification for CO2 units, inspection and testing of hoses, horns and nozzles, confirmation that maintenance tags and labels are current, and a thorough external condition assessment. Service tags are updated with the inspection date and next due date.
AS 1851 Section 15
5-Yearly
Hydrostatic pressure testing of the cylinder to verify structural integrity, along with complete discharge, internal examination, replacement of all seals, o-rings and valves, and recharging. Units that fail hydrostatic testing are condemned and replaced. This is mandatory for all stored-pressure extinguishers.

Types of Extinguishers We Service
Dry Chemical (ABE)
The most versatile and commonly deployed extinguisher, covering Class A, B, and E fires. Found in almost every commercial building, warehouse, and industrial site throughout Perth. Suitable for general fire risks.
Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Designed for Class E electrical fires and sensitive electronic equipment. Leaves no residue, making it the preferred choice for server rooms, switchboards, laboratories, and electrical plant rooms.
Water
Suitable for Class A fires involving ordinary combustibles such as paper, wood, and textiles. Common in office environments, retail spaces, and public buildings.
Foam (AFFF)
Effective on Class A and Class B fires. The foam blanket smothers flammable liquid fires and prevents re-ignition, making them ideal for workshops, garages, and fuel storage areas.
Wet Chemical
Purpose-built for Class F fires involving cooking oils and fats. Required in commercial kitchens, food courts, and any premises with deep fryers or high-temperature cooking equipment.
Our Testing Process
Arrival & Asset Identification
Our technician arrives on site and scans each extinguisher using our QR-coded asset management system. Every unit is geographically tagged and linked to its full service history.
Visual Inspection
Each extinguisher is checked for physical damage, corrosion, correct mounting height, clear access, legible labels, intact safety pins, and appropriate signage.
Functional Testing
Pressure gauges are verified, weight checks are performed on CO2 units, hoses and nozzles are examined, and discharge tests are conducted where required by the applicable standard.
Compliance Tagging
Compliant extinguishers receive an updated service tag with the date of inspection, the next due date, and the technician's licence number. Non-compliant units are clearly flagged for replacement.
Digital Reporting via Client Portal
A detailed service report is uploaded to your client portal within 24 hours. Reports highlight any defects, include photographic evidence, and provide a clear summary of the compliance status of every asset on site.
